When the clutch is engaged (clutch pedal up), torque is transmitted to the input shaft. The input shaft and input drive gear transfer power to the counter shaft. The counter shaft does not transfers power to any gears or the output shaft since the synchronizers are not engaged locking a gear to the output shaft.
