Gear Ratios
Power flows through the transmission starting at the input shaft and flows through the transmission in several paths to obtain the various gear ratios. On a rear wheel drive vehicle one of the gears is direct drive or a ratio of 1 to 1. The G56 transmission has six forward speeds and one reverse. The gear ratios for the G56 transmission are in the table below.
Shift Pattern
The shift pattern differ between transmissions and is normally marked on the shift knob. The G56 shows L for first because it is a very low gear ratio normally used for pulling heavy trailers.
