Speed GearsSpeed gears are gears that spin or freewheel on the shaft when the shaft is turned. The gears on the output shaft of the G56 transmission are all speed gears. Since speed gears spin on the shaft they will create heat through the friction between the shaft and the gear. These gears can be splash lubricated to allow the speed gears to ride on a film of oil reducing the possibility of the gear seizing to the shaft. Speed gears may also ride on caged needle bearings along with the oil in the transmission to reduce the heat generated. The G56 transmission uses caged needle bearing under all the speed gears and the reverse idle gear. Counter Shaft – G56 Transmission Shown |
