Fifth Gear

When the clutch is engaged (clutch pedal up), torque is transmitted to the input shaft. The 5-6 synchronizer locks the input drive gear to the output shaft. Torque is transferred directly from the input shaft to the output shaft. This gives a fifth gear a 1 to 1 ratio.
